Cardiac Drug Therapies

It has become common practice to offer some cardiac drug therapies in the home. These drugs are called inotropics or have inotropic effects. An inotrope strengthens the force of each heart beat usually without increasing the heart rate. These therapies are used to treat diseases such as cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure. Some of the drugs used in the home are ionotropes such as Primacor or Natrecor and those with a positive inotropic effect such as Dobutamine. MediLink pharmacists will coordinate with your physician should you require this type of therapy. MediLink nurses will assist you in receiving your treatments in the home with as little disruption to your daily schedule as possible.
