Heparin Recall Announcement to Patients
By: Sandy Tzaferos
  Dear Valued MediLink Patient,

We have been advised by our manufacturer of Heparin flush syringes, Medefil, Inc., that they have begun to initiate a voluntary, nation-wide recall of several lots of Heparin syringes as a result of a recall of USP Heparin Sodium by their supplier SPL of Wisconsin. Medefil has not received any reports of adverse reactions associated with their Heparin I.V. Flush Syringes and this recall is strictly precautionary.

To comply with this voluntary recall, we have implemented a process to collect all Heparin flushes from our current patients. Here are the steps:

1. Gather current supply of Heparin flush syringes in your home

2. Give your supply of Heparin flushes (yellow syringe) to your MediLink driver at your next delivery

3. Begin flushing your IV catheter with Saline solution provided (white syringe) before and after each dose or every 12 hours

4. Be informed that your nurse will be replacing the end cap of your IV line as an added measure

5. Contact MediLink toll free at 1-800-984-1014 if you have any questions, we will have staff members dedicated to assist you with this process.

Again, Medefil has not received any reports of adverse reactions associated with their Heparin I.V. Flush Syringes and this recall is strictly precautionary.

We commit to you that positive patient outcomes are our top priority. We are acting quickly to enforce this voluntary recall while continuing the highest quality standards of our industry.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us at 1-800-984-1014. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your cooperation.
